Network QoS laboratory
The Ugo Bordoni Foundation (FUB) avails itself of various laboratories, both privately owned and made available by the Higher Institute of Communications and of Information Technology (ISCOM) of the Department of Communications of the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, jointly utilised by the two institutions.
Among the FUB laboratories, there is the network QoS (Quality of Service) lab. It was created in 2008 to measure the quality of video services on IP (Internet Protocol) networks.
With the activation of the MisuraInternet project (2010) the laboratory was expanded and integrated with the NGN (New Generation Network) lab. Equipment already active (network simulators) was integrated with the access network, while we bought a Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM).
The network QoS laboratory aims to:
- Create an experimental network environment to test network probes used by the inspectorates (local technical bodies of the Ministry of Economic Development) for the measurement of statistical quality parameters.
- Create an experimental network environment to test the Ne.Me.Sys software and the MisuraInternet Speed Test downloaded by end users.
- Create an experimental network environment to measure quality of services with respect to network neutrality and to network tomography.
