Robotic shopping carts that follow you home
It was presented during the International Festival of Robotics in Pisa, it is called MoBot and you only need to install an app on your smartphone to make it work.
MoBot was developed by Mediate Robotics, a spinoff of the BioRobotics Institute of Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, in collaboration with the Municipality of Peccioli and Belvedere Spa. The initial need was a system for the transport of goods from the parking lot to the houses located in the city centre where private cars cannot circulate.
Now, Peccioli has become a large lab, by promoting one of the most important experiments for collaborative robotics globally.
In the future, it will be possible to use MoBot, thanks to its potentials and adaptability, in other urban centres or even in shopping centres and supermarkets thus meeting the needs of citizens and dealers.
“You have developed it in the way we conceived it”, said Gastone Ciuti, a Sant’Anna researcher, one of the founders of Mediate Robotics, when he reported the comments of the citizens of Peccioli involved in the trial.
“We bring together social innovation and technologies that will help us avoid depopulation of the historic center, to increase its liveability. Today, we are implementing a project that we started thinking about in 2001, when we inaugurated the multi-floor parking area”, said Renzo Macelloni, mayer of Peccioli. “The prototype we are presenting today is very advanced and results from a long-time collaboration with the BioRobotics Institute of Sant’Anna”.
