Innovation, EIT launches a call on urban mobility and advanced manufacturing
The European Institute of Innovation and Technology-EIT has launched a competition for the creation of two new KICs – Knowledge and Innovation Communities – in the fields of Urban Mobility and Added-value Manufacturing.
The competition is open to companies, education institutions and research centres. The deadline to participate is July 2018 and the results will be announced in December.
The winners will have the opportunity to join the largest innovation community aimed at promoting new solutions to issues of European interest.
KICs are extended partnerships that bring together companies, research centres, universities and other stakeholders involved in the innovation process, with the aim to tackle Europe’s major societal challenges – such as climate change, health and active ageing – through the development of new products, services or processes. To this end, the partnerships also support the startup of new businesses and promote the training of new innovators.
In the field of Added-value Manufacturing, the objective is to strengthen and improve the competitiveness of Europe’s manufacturing industry. The new KIC aims to transform today’s industrial forms of production making them more knowledge intensive, sustainable, trans-sectoral and low-emission.
In the Urban Mobility field, the objective is to ensure a greener, more inclusive, safer and “smarter” urban mobility system. This is a priority investment area as more than 70% of European citizens live in urban areas.
