Hi-tech waste: Remete wins 2017 Start Cup Piemonte and Valle d’Aosta
To completely reclaim rare earth elements and valuable metals, such as gold and silver, from electronic materials no longer used and from Waste of Electric and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) is the objective of Remete, the startup that won the XIII Start Cup Piemonte and Valle d’Aosta, a competition supported by Regione Piemonte and promoted by local universities.
Remete has developed a process that allows not to waste resources and to treat mixed and humid materials, at ambient pressure and temperature, where reagents can be completely reclaimed. The project has received a cash price of 20,000 euro.
Ranking second was Wound Viewer, a medical device that acquires and automatically processes the images of skin wounds, by providing physicians with the crucial wound data and reporting information in digital clinical reports.
Ranking third was Ermes, the software created to address the issue of theft of users’ sensitive data by profiling systems, the so-called “web tracker”. These two projects received cash prices of 15,000 and 10,000 euro, respectively.
