FLAG-ERA JTC 2016 Networking Event
FET (Future and Emerging Technology) Flagship ERA-NET, called FLAG-ERA, is a project included in the ERA-NET actions, designed to help improve the synergy between the national research programmes of Member States and Associated Countries and the Framework Programme, and to facilitate the creation of networks of different national public entities to implement R&D programmes in specific thematic areas.
ERA-NET provides an organized work plan aimed to facilitate a systematic exchange of information and methodology on existing programmes and activities, identifying common strategic issues, planning and developing joint activities between national and regional programmes aimed at the implementation of these activities, through joint competitions and programmes.
During FP6, 106 ERANET projects were launched, involving 1047 participants from 40 European countries for a total funding of over 183 million euro from the European Commission, with the participation of 29 Italian entities in 47 projects, for a total contribution of over 6.5 million euro.
MIUR participated in 7 ERANET projects of FP6 and it also participates in ERANET for FP7 being involved in various projects and in a Support Action (COSINE2), including FLAG-ERA.
FLAG-ERA is a consortium of coordination and support developed within the 7th Framework Programme with the objective to promote cooperation and coordination of research activities on a specific thematic area and bring together most of the regional and national funding organizations (NRFOs) in Europe, with total resources of over 1 billion euros in 10 years in support of FET Flagships, large-scale initiatives with a high scientific impact, and lay a solid foundation for the future in the field of technological innovation in various sectors.
FLAG-ERA brings together most regional and national Organizations, Public Bodies, Universities and Research Centres (NRFOs) in Europe with the aim of supporting FETs, more specifically, the FET Flagship initiatives on Graphene and Human Brain besides supporting the objectives set by the other four pilot themes: ICT for Social Sciences, High-Efficiency Sensor Networks, Digital Medicine for Cancer, and Cooperative Robots.
In order to promote the definition of transnational calls that allow researchers from different countries to submit joint contributions aimed at the real implementation of the above mentioned actions, on 9 December 2015, the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) in Rome hosted a networking event on the new European 2016 call of the ERANET FLAG-ERA project, which covered the following topics:
- ICT for Social Sciences
- High-Efficiency Sensor Networks
- Digital Medicine for Cancer
- Cooperative Robots
The new call supports the coordination of research in the fields of the four Flaghsip Pilots not funded in the previous European call, with the aim of continuing along the research path already planned.
The FLAG-ERA project involves, directly or as associated members, most of the funding organizations in Europe. The project, however, also intends to promote international cooperation with funding organizations outside Europe. At present, there are 37 countries in the FLAG-ERA Consortium, coordinated by the French Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR), of which 22 are members from 14 EU States and 3 from Associated Countries.
