The aerospace and defence sector is globally a strategic one for Countries’ competitiveness, expression of technological expertise and high-level professionalism: the sector’s power to impact and affect countries’ economies, adjacent markets and society overall is extremely significant.

The Italian aerospace sector is seventh in the world and fourth in Europe and is the largest manufacturing sector in Italy in the segment of high-tech integrated systems.

CTNA brings together all the major players of the national aerospace system and aims to position itself as the national leader cluster in aerospace at the European level.

Projects

Mission

The Cluster activities will pursue the following objectives:

  • increase competitiveness, positioning and employment levels in the aeronautics sector;
  • consolidate and extend leadership over areas of excellence;
  • contribute to the enhancement of the national research and innovation system;
  • strengthen national technological excellences;
  • Promote the development of strong productive chains both in the core aerospace industry and in the adjacent markets

Lines of development

CTNA, in line with the main technological pathways defined by the major players and the funding schemes promoted by the major EU and international collaboration programmes, has identified four areas of development of great scientific and technological importance:

  • Rotating wing (TiltrotorFX project)
  • Fixed wing (TIVANO project)
  • Hybrid aeronautics and space propulsion (Greening the Propulsion project)
  • Space (SAPERE project)
